While we all own articles of clothing that indicate they should be dry cleaned, cutting back on sending things out is more beneficial than you might ever think. When you read why getting your clothes dry cleaned can actually be harmful to your health, you might just want to limit any new clothes you purchase to those you can wash yourself. I know I have decided that is the best way to proceed.
Clothes sent to the dry cleaner are often coated in a chemical called perchloroethylene. Though this has been found to be better for certain items, this chemical has also been linked to cancer and other health issues. Obviously, the less often you and your family come into contact with this chemical, also known as PERC, the better.
For those items that you have to send out, take action to limit keeping the chemical inside your airspace. Take the plastic wrap off the garment, and hang it either out of doors, or in a garage space. Discard of those bags, as they have the chemical residue upon them.
